Don't trust T-Mobile because they lie

I have made this page to warn others not to trust T-Mobile because they lie and charge you fees despite promises made to the contrary.

Please read the scanned letter below as the entire text is too much to quote word for word, but I will basically summarize my story here. In 2006 I signed up for T-Mobile when I moved to Arizona, and for the most part had great service. At the end of 2008 I moved to a small town in Indiana and didn't use my cell phone much until I went back to Arizona on vacation in September of 2009. At that time I decided to upgrade to the Google G1 Android cell phone. With this new phone I used the Internet a lot more and in May of 2010 I received the letter shown below. It basically states that they are sorry to inform me that because "a very high percentage of your usage" occurred while roaming off the T-Mobile network that they were canceling my account as of June 21st 2010. In that letter they went on to say, "In light of this transition T-Mobile will waive any early termination fee (if applicable) associated with the cancellation of these phone lines". Additionally, if I wanted to keep my current number I would need to initiate the transfer before the June 21st 2010 dead line, which I did. I purchased the Motorola Droid through Verizon Wireless and absolutely love the service and the phone. In early July of 2010 I received my final bill from T-Mobile, which I pictured in the second post below.

T-Mobile lies don't use them

This bill includes the standard $200 T-Mobile Early Termination fee even though the letter I had received stated they would waive this fee. So I called their customer support that same day to get this resolved. After I go through 10 minutes of "push 1 for English" I get a live person on the phone and they first tell me that my account is cancelled and give me the amount of the final bill. I said, "Yes I know this, and my final bill is what I'm calling you about because I was told that T-Mobile would waive the early cancellation fees". The guy was an outsourced worker from a third world country and he kept reading me the same info about how my contract wasn't going to expire until September 2011 and that the $200 was the standard early cancellation fee... I went on to read him the important parts of the letter and again he only said that the $200 was the standard early cancellation fee. So I just hung up after the 4th time of explaining that I didn't cancel but was instead canceled on by T-Mobile.

At this point I figured I would have to drive into the city to a local T-Mobile store to get this matter resolved. I didn't realize that the closest one to me was almost an hour and a half away. To me it sounded ridiculous to drive three hours to get a fee removed from my account that I should have never been charged for in the first place. I decided to call one more time and this time when I got the same run around I asked to talk to someone higher up. This guy was still outsourced and he was much more polite, but still couldn't help me. He told me that they had no records of what I was talking about and had to bill me for what they see in front of them. I always had my T-Mobile bill set up on Easy Pay and taken out of my bank account monthly so it wasn't an option to not pay this $287 bill today (July 26th 2010). I asked my bank if I could stop this easy pay before it happened but they told me that since it was set up with T-Mobile and not with the bank that they couldn't stop it.

So this is a warning to anyone that is thinking about using T-Mobile as their wireless provider. Don't do it because they will lie to you and treat you poorly in the end. If on the off chance someone from T-Mobile reads this and wishes to make things right, feel free to contact me at TMobileLies (AT) mattblue.net. I do plan to send this out to a few hundred friends and maybe out to tens of thousands daily if I choose to use my Internet career to share my horror story. Please feel free to share this with everyone you know as well and thanks for listening to me vent. Sometimes just venting helps me to get past getting screwed, but if my venting gets this to the right people and I get the $200 back T-Mobile STOLE from me, then better yet.
